Three days covers Bohol’s two headline trips, the inland countryside loop and Panglao’s island hopping, without rushing either, as long as the day you arrive stays light.

Times are from how to get to Bohol from Cebu. Stops are covered in the Chocolate Hills, tarsiers and Loboc River tour and Panglao island hopping and Balicasag.

Day 1: ferry over, settle in

Take the OceanJet fastcraft from Cebu City, about 2 hours, or the slower Lite Ferries RORO boat if the lower fare matters more than the time, full comparison in how to get to Bohol from Cebu. Arriving by late morning or early afternoon leaves time to get from Tagbilaran pier to Panglao and settle in before dark. Sleep on Panglao, Alona Beach if you want restaurants within walking distance, see where to stay in Bohol.

Day 2: the countryside loop

Hire a tricycle or habal-habal driver for the day, or book a shared countryside tour, to cover the Chocolate Hills viewing complex in Carmen, the Tarsier Sanctuary, and the Loboc River lunch cruise. Full detail, including the DIY-versus-van-tour cost comparison, is in the Chocolate Hills, tarsiers and Loboc River tour. This loop takes most of a day, plan to be back on Panglao by early evening.

Day 3: island hopping off Panglao

Start early, boats commonly leave around 6am for calmer water and the best chance at dolphins before the day’s traffic picks up. The typical route covers Balicasag Island for snorkelling and Virgin Island for a sandbar stop, back by early afternoon. Book the boat a day ahead through your accommodation or a tour desk, full pricing on Panglao island hopping and Balicasag.

Where to stay for this itinerary

Where to stay in Bohol covers Alona Beach against the quieter Panglao beaches, and Tagbilaran if you need a night near the ferry pier instead.

Before you book

This split assumes one day for each headline activity, add a day if you want to dive beyond a shore-snorkel standard, Balicasag has established dive sites beyond what the standard island-hopping tour covers. A fourth day leaves room for Hinagdanan Cave, Baclayon Church or Danao Adventure Park’s zipline, see things to do in Bohol for what each costs. A session with me is the fastest way to ask how to extend this or fit it around a wider Visayas trip. Questions people ask

Is 3 days enough for Bohol?

Yes, if you split it as a travel day, a countryside day, and an island-hopping day rather than trying to do the countryside loop and the islands on the same day. Both take most of a day on their own.

Should I do the countryside loop or island hopping first?

Either works, but island-hopping boats leave early in the morning, roughly 6am, so most visitors who arrive by early afternoon on day 1 do the countryside loop on day 2 and save the islands, which need an earlier, more alert start, for day 3.

Do I need a car for this itinerary?

No. The ferry covers the Cebu to Bohol leg, a tricycle or habal-habal driver covers the countryside loop, usually hired for the day, and the island-hopping boat is arranged through your accommodation or a tour desk.

What if I only have 2 days in Bohol?

Pick one, the countryside loop or the islands, rather than rushing both into one day.

Can I base myself in Tagbilaran instead of Panglao for this itinerary?

You can, Tagbilaran is closer to the ferry pier, but Panglao puts you closer to the island-hopping boats and the beach, and is the more common base. See where to stay in Bohol for the trade-off.
