Things to Do in Moalboal Beyond the Sardine Run

The sardine run and Kawasan Falls canyoneering are Moalboal’s two headline days, and Pescador Island is the common third, but two more things to do come up often once those are done: a freediving course, and an actual swimming beach at Lambug.
Freediving: a half-day taster or a full certification
Panagsama Beach has become one of the Philippines’ go-to spots to learn freediving, with several schools based right on the beach taking advantage of the same drop-off that draws divers to the sardine run.

| Course | Typical cost | Length |
|---|---|---|
| Half-day discovery taster | ≈ ₱3,500 | Half day |
| Beginner certification (Level 1) | ≈ ₱14,000-21,000 | 2.5-3 days, varies by school and level |

A taster day is a reasonable add-on to a sardine-run morning, since both start in the same water off Panagsama. A full certification is its own multi-day commitment and works better as the main reason for a longer Moalboal stay than as a side activity.
Lambug Beach: the actual swimming beach
Panagsama Beach itself is rocky with a steep drop-off, built for snorkelling and diving rather than swimming. Lambug, in Badian municipality about 20 minutes away by motorbike, is the sandy alternative most people mean when they picture a typical Philippine beach day.

Fitting these around the sardine run and canyoneering
Neither needs a tour-boat booking the way the sardine run or canyoneering do. See the sardine run and Kawasan Falls canyoneering for those two plus the Pescador Island add-on, and a 3-day Cebu and Moalboal itinerary for how a freediving or Lambug day could slot into a short trip.
Where to stay for either
Panagsama puts you on the doorstep of the freediving schools and the sardine run; Basdaku/White Beach, a short ride from Lambug, is the quieter alternative if swimming matters more than diving. Where to stay in Moalboal compares the two.
Before you go
Book a freediving course a few days ahead if you want a specific school or instructor, Lambug needs no booking at all beyond arranging a ride out. For what a day of either plus a bed and food adds up to, see Moalboal: best time to visit and what a trip costs. A session with me is the fastest way to ask how either fits around a wider Cebu trip.
Questions people ask
What is there to do in Moalboal besides the sardine run and Kawasan Falls?
A freediving course, taught by several schools based right on Panagsama Beach, and a day at Lambug Beach in nearby Badian, which has the sandy swimming beach Panagsama itself lacks. Both are separate from the sardine run, canyoneering and Pescador Island, already covered on the main activities page.
How much does a freediving course cost in Moalboal?
A half-day discovery taster runs around ₱3,500. A full beginner certification, usually spread over 2.5 to 3 days, costs roughly ₱14,000-21,000 depending on the school and certification level.
Is Lambug Beach worth the trip from Moalboal?
If what you want is to actually swim off a sandy beach, yes. Panagsama Beach in Moalboal itself is rocky with a drop-off, built for snorkelling and diving rather than swimming, and Lambug, about 20 minutes away by motorbike in Badian, is the nearby alternative with real sand.
How much does it cost to visit Lambug Beach?
Roughly ₱50-65 per person at the LGU checkpoint. A beach cottage for the day costs roughly ₱500 on top of that if you want shade.
Can I do a freediving course and visit Lambug Beach on the same trip?
Yes, but not usually the same day. A freediving taster or course day is based in the water off Panagsama, while Lambug is a half-day trip out to Badian, most people treat them as separate days within a longer Moalboal stay.
