Things to Do in El Nido Beyond the Boat Tours

El Nido’s four island-hopping tours (A, B, C and D) cover most of what people come for, but three land-based stops are worth adding if you have a spare day: Nacpan Beach to the north, the Taraw Cliff climb right above town, and Las Cabanas Beach for sunset.
Nacpan Beach: the quiet 4km stretch
A long, pale stretch of sand lined with coconut palms, about 17km (roughly 45 minutes by road) north of El Nido town. It trades the lagoon scenery and boat traffic of the tours for open space, swimming and a sunset without a crowd. Calitang and Duli Beach nearby are common add-ons if you have a driver for the day.

Taraw Cliff: the climb above town
A limestone cliff directly behind El Nido town, climbed for the view over Bacuit Bay rather than for a beach at the top. The managed route (sold as “via ferrata” or “canopy walk”, both names for the same cabled, laddered path) is the one most visitors take: a guide, helmet and harness are included in the ticket.

| Item | Typical cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hanging Bridge and Viewdeck | ≈ ₱400 | Includes guide, helmet, harness |
| Dreamcatchers add-on | ≈ ₱300 extra | A second viewpoint reached from the main deck |

The climb itself is short, under 20 minutes up, with a 45-60 minute round trip once you count the viewdeck and the way back down. It runs daily between roughly 8am and 5pm, sunrise climbs need an early start arranged the day before.
Las Cabanas Beach: the closest sunset
A short ride from town, around 3-4km (roughly 10-15 minutes by tricycle), facing Cadlao Island across the water. It’s the most convenient sunset spot for anyone based in town or Corong-Corong, with a few resto-bars right on the sand.

Where these fit around the boat tours
None of these three stops needs a tour-boat booking, so any of them works on a day you’re not out on Tour A, B, C or D. See El Nido island hopping, Tour A, B, C and D compared for the boat routes, and a 3-day El Nido itinerary for how a rest day could slot in on a short trip.
Where to stay for either trip
El Nido town or Corong-Corong put you closest to Las Cabanas and the Taraw Cliff trailhead; Nacpan is a separate trip out and back for most visitors rather than a reason to change base. Where to stay in El Nido compares town against Corong-Corong and Lio; for a dorm bed, see the best hostels in El Nido.
Before you go
All three stops are pay-as-you-go in cash, no advance booking needed beyond arranging a tricycle or habal-habal. A session with me is the fastest way to ask how any of them fit around your island-hopping days.
Questions people ask
What is there to do in El Nido besides island hopping?
Three things most visitors add on: a sunset at Las Cabanas Beach close to town, a day trip north to Nacpan Beach, and the Taraw Cliff climb above town for a view over Bacuit Bay. All three are land-based, no boat booking needed, and can slot into a rest day between tours.
Is Nacpan Beach worth the trip from El Nido town?
Yes: it's a quieter, 4km stretch of sand without the boat traffic of the lagoon tours, roughly 45 minutes from town by tricycle or habal-habal. There's no entrance fee, only parking and whatever food or facilities you use.
How much does the Taraw Cliff climb cost?
The managed route (via ferrata / canopy walk) runs around ₱400 for the Hanging Bridge and Viewdeck, with a ₱300 add-on for the Dreamcatchers viewpoint.
Do I need a guide for Taraw Cliff?
Yes. The managed via ferrata / canopy walk route includes a guide, helmet and harness in its ticket price.
How do I get to Nacpan Beach from El Nido town?
By tricycle (around ₱250-350 one way) or habal-habal motorbike (around ₱300-500 one way), roughly 45 minutes each way.
Can I do Nacpan Beach and Taraw Cliff on the same trip as the island-hopping tours?
Yes, both are land-based and don't compete with a tour-boat schedule, so they work well on a day you're not booked on Tour A, B, C or D. See a 3-day El Nido itinerary for how the tours and a rest day fit together.
Is Las Cabanas Beach worth a visit, and is the zipline worth paying for?
The beach itself is free and known for its sunset view of Cadlao Island, which is reason enough for most visitors. The zipline above the beach is a paid extra, roughly ₱500 one-way up to ₱1,100 return in the lying-down 'Superman' position, and is optional rather than the main reason to go.
