Where to stay in El Nido: compare the best areas

Stay in El Nido town for restaurants and convenient town departures, Corong-Corong for sunset views, Lio for resort facilities near the airport, or Nacpan for slower beach days. The main decision is how often you want to travel into town.
Robert’s own pick in El Nido: Frendz Hostel
More hostels in El Nido and the rest of the country: the best hostels in the Philippines.
Quick picks
- Travelling solo and keen to meet people: Frendz Hostel El Nido is my recommendation in town.
- First time in El Nido: stay in town. You’ll be close to the pier, the tour desks and food without planning around a tricycle.
- On a budget: compare hostels and guesthouses in town and Corong-Corong. Check whether the quoted rate is for a dorm bed or a private room.
- As a couple: Corong-Corong for the sunset beach, or Lio if resort comfort matters more than nightlife.
- With kids: Lio, pools and on-site facilities close to the airport, so less moving around with small children.
Comparing the four areas

| Area | Best for | Main trade-off | Budget range |
|---|---|---|---|
| El Nido town | First visits, restaurants and island-hopping departures | More nightlife and noise | Budget to mid-range |
| Corong-Corong | Sunset views and quieter evenings | A ride into town for departures there | Budget to boutique |
| Lio | Resort facilities and a stay near the airport | Less convenient for town nightlife | Upper mid-range to resort |
| Nacpan and outlying beaches | Slower beach days | Longer transfers; less practical for daily town departures | Mid-range to resort |
El Nido town: the easy default
The island-hopping tours leave from here, and so does most of the food and going out. Hostels, mid-range hotels and guesthouses sit within walking distance of the pier. Choose a room a few streets back from the bars if you want to sleep.
Why here: no tricycle needed for tours, food or nightlife. Why not: it’s the busiest, loudest area, and the cheapest rooms go first in peak season.
Pier side or the inland streets: the blocks closest to the pier and the beachfront restaurants are the loudest, music and bar noise included, and the most convenient if you’re out late or leaving early for a tour. The streets past the market, two or three minutes further on foot, are noticeably quieter at night and still an easy walk to the pier in the morning, worth asking for when you book a town guesthouse.
Corong-Corong: the calmer beach
A short tricycle ride from town, on the other side of the bay, with a long beach that faces the sunset. You eat at the beach restaurants and ride into town for tours or going out. It suits couples and anyone who wants quiet evenings without giving up easy access to the tours.
Why here: sunset views and a quieter beach, still close enough to town for tours. Why not: you’re dependent on a tricycle after dark, and the strip is smaller than town’s.
Lio: the resort estate by the airport
Lio is a planned resort area about 4km north of town, built around El Nido’s own airport and a long beach. It’s comfortable and self-contained, you eat, swim and sleep mostly on the property rather than walking into town for any of it.
Why here: resort facilities, short transfer from the airport, easiest option with young kids. Why not: not walkable to town’s restaurants or nightlife, and priced above the town/Corong-Corong bracket.
Nacpan and the beaches further out
The beaches further from town, Nacpan chief among them, are quieter, less developed and take a longer ride to reach: roughly 45 minutes (22km) from El Nido town, or about 30 minutes from Lio Airport. Staying here suits a few nights of doing very little. It is not a base for the standard island-hopping tours.
Why here: the beach itself, with far fewer people than town’s. Why not: every meal and every trip into town costs a long ride, and it isn’t set up for tour logistics.
Before you book
Tours leave early, so how long it takes you to reach the boat matters more than almost anything else in this decision. When in doubt, base yourself in town or Corong-Corong and treat Lio or Nacpan as a few extra nights before or after, not your main stay. See how to get to El Nido from Manila for the flight and van routes in, and a 3-day El Nido itinerary for how the days split once you’re here.
Once you know where you’re sleeping, Tour A, B, C and D compared walks through what each island-hopping route actually covers, so you can plan which days you need to be near the pier. Questions people ask
Where is the best area to stay in El Nido?
El Nido town for most people: the island-hopping tours leave from the town pier, and the restaurants, bars and tour desks are within walking distance. Corong-Corong is the next best option if you still want to do the tours but would rather end the day somewhere quieter.
Is it better to stay in El Nido town or Corong-Corong?
Town if you want to walk to tours, food and nightlife without a tricycle. Corong-Corong if you want a sunset-facing beach and a calmer evening, and don't mind a short ride to town for anything you booked there. Both put you on the same tour boats the next morning.
How far is Lio from El Nido town, and is it worth staying there?
Lio is about 4km north of town, built around El Nido's own airport. It's worth it if you want resort comfort, pools and on-site facilities over nightlife and walkability, you'll eat and swim mostly on the property rather than in town.
Where should I stay in El Nido with kids?
Lio is the easiest choice for families: a handful of resort-style properties with pools and on-site facilities, a short transfer from the airport, and no need to rely on tricycles after dark. Corong-Corong's beachfront villas are the next option if you want a bit more space without full resort pricing.
Where to stay in El Nido on a budget?
Compare hostels and guesthouses in El Nido town and Corong-Corong. Check whether the rate covers a dorm bed or a private room, whether air-conditioning is included, and the total for your travel dates.
Is Nacpan Beach worth staying at instead of El Nido town?
Only if you're not trying to do the standard island-hopping tours from there, Nacpan is roughly 45 minutes (22km) from town by road, so it isn't a base for daily tours. It suits a couple of slow beach days before or after you base yourself in town or Corong-Corong.
Where should I stay in El Nido if I want nightlife?
El Nido town. The bars and hostels sit close together and you can walk home, which matters more here than it sounds, there's no reliable late tricycle service back from Corong-Corong or Lio.
How many nights should I spend in El Nido?
Most people base themselves in town or Corong-Corong for 3–4 nights to fit in two of the four island-hopping tours (A, B, C, D) with a rest day, then add a night or two in Lio or at Nacpan if they want a quieter finish.
Do I need to book El Nido accommodation in advance?
During peak season (roughly December–April) the better-located budget rooms in town fill up, so booking a few days to a couple of weeks ahead is safer than arriving and looking. Lio's resorts and Nacpan's beachfront places are smaller in number and worth booking even further ahead.
Is El Nido safe to stay in?
Yes, for the areas covered on this page. Violent crime against tourists is uncommon around the town, the beaches, hotels and the organised tour zones, the usual care with cash and belongings in a busy tourist strip applies, nothing specific to El Nido.
Are there ATMs in El Nido, or should I bring cash?
Bring cash for at least your first few days. There are ATMs in town, one in Corong-Corong and one in Lio Beach, but they run out of cash or lose connection during busy periods, and most small guesthouses and restaurants don't take cards.
What's the WiFi and phone signal like in El Nido?
Patchy almost everywhere. Globe and Smart both have LTE in town, but speeds disappoint, and hotel WiFi is slow. Lio Beach has a free public WiFi point. If you need to work online, treat any connection here as a backup, not a given.
Do El Nido hotels have power during outages?
Scheduled brownouts of several hours happen during the day from the local provider PALECO, plus occasional unscheduled cuts during storms. Bigger hotels and resorts, generally the Lio properties and the larger places in town, run their own generators through a cut; smaller guesthouses and hostels usually don't, so a power bank is worth packing regardless of where you stay.
