Siargao in 5 days: a realistic itinerary

Five days is enough for the main things on Siargao: a day to settle into General Luna, a day for Cloud 9 or a beginner surf spot, the three-island hop, Sugba Lagoon, and Magpupungko on its own day, because the lagoon and the tide pools sit on opposite sides of the island. I keep going back to Siargao, and five days is roughly what it takes to get past the surfing and into the boat trips and tide pools that fill the rest of a week there.

Times are from how to get to Siargao and island hopping, Sugba Lagoon and Magpupungko.
Day 1: arrive and settle in
Fly via Cebu or take the Surigao-Dapa ferry, full breakdown in how to get to Siargao. Sayak Airport sits on the northern side of the island, so budget time for the ride south to General Luna. Settle in, walk out to Cloud 9 for sunset, and book Day 3’s three-island tour through your accommodation.
Day 2: Cloud 9 or a beginner surf spot
Cloud 9 is the famous reef break and not beginner-friendly at size; General Luna has gentler spots for anyone starting out. Either way this is a day built around the surf, not a boat tour.
Day 3: the three-island hop
Naked, Daku and Guyam islands, a half-day outrigger-boat circuit with lunch cooked on Daku, full detail in island hopping, Sugba Lagoon and Magpupungko.
Day 4: Sugba Lagoon
A mangrove-enclosed lagoon out of Del Carmen, on the opposite side of the island from General Luna, best started early before it gets busy from mid-morning. Same page as above for current fees and logistics.
Day 5: Magpupungko rock pools
Up in Pilar on the east side, these tide pools only work at low tide, so this day is built around the tide table, not a fixed departure time. Check the current tide schedule before locking in the day.
Where to stay for this itinerary
Where to stay in Siargao compares General Luna against Pacifico and Cloud 9 itself, most boat tours and surf lessons pick up from General Luna or Dapa.
Evenings in General Luna
Choose a night out around the weekly venue rotation rather than a fixed itinerary day. Our Siargao nightlife and party schedule covers the usual starting points, Harana on Saturdays and my Siargao Beach Club tip. Check the actual event before heading out.
Before you book
This split assumes you book the three-island hop and Sugba Lagoon a day ahead through your accommodation or a boatman once you’re on the island, and that you check the tide table before fixing a date for Magpupungko. For a rest-day add-on that doesn’t need a boat, see things to do in Siargao beyond the boat tours, and for what five days like this add up to, Siargao: what a trip costs. The Siargao trip I am building is still on the waitlist, and a session with me is the fastest way to ask about pulling a longer stay together.
Questions people ask
Is 5 days enough for Siargao?
Yes, for the main things most visitors come for: settling in, a surf day at Cloud 9, the three-island hop, Sugba Lagoon, and Magpupungko, each getting its own day since the lagoon and tide pools sit on opposite sides of the island and don't combine well.
Can I do Sugba Lagoon and Magpupungko on the same day?
Not comfortably. They sit on opposite sides of Siargao, Sugba Lagoon out of Del Carmen on the west, Magpupungko up in Pilar on the east, and Magpupungko only works at low tide, which won't always line up with a Sugba Lagoon morning. See Siargao island hopping for why most itineraries give each its own day.
Do I need to be a surfer to enjoy 5 days in Siargao?
No. Cloud 9 is the famous reef break, but General Luna has gentler beginner spots, and the three-island hop, Sugba Lagoon and Magpupungko are non-surfing days built around boats and tide pools, not waves.
Where should I base myself for this itinerary?
General Luna, it's the main town with the most restaurants, boatmen and tour pickups, and it's the easiest base for Cloud 9 and the three-island hop, see where to stay in Siargao for how it compares to Pacifico and Cloud 9 itself.
Do I need to book these tours in advance?
Usually not far ahead. Shared boat tours for the three-island hop and Sugba Lagoon are typically booked a day ahead through your accommodation or a boatman in General Luna or Dapa, prices and availability shift day to day.
How do I get to Siargao to start this itinerary?
There's no direct flight from Manila anymore, the practical route is Manila-Cebu then a Cebu-Siargao flight, or a ferry from Surigao to Dapa, see how to get to Siargao for the current routes and what to check before booking.
