Things to Do in Camiguin Beyond White Island and the Springs

Beyond White Island and the springs, the main things to do in Camiguin are the Sunken Cemetery, the Walkway to the Old Volcano, the Gui-ob Church ruins, Tuasan Falls and the Bura soda-water pool around Catarman, plus the Taguines Lagoon zipline and a guided climb of Mount Hibok-Hibok (fees checked 15 October 2026). In my first Camiguin clip I put it like this: “You literally have everything on this tiny small island.” Waterfalls, mountains, volcanoes, cold springs and hot springs. White Island, the two springs and Katibawasan Falls have their own page; this one covers the rest of the island.

Robert’s own pick on Camiguin

The Catarman loop: five stops on the west side

Five of Camiguin’s sights sit along the same stretch of road in Catarman, so one scooter loop from Mambajao covers them all.

Stop What it is Entrance Drive from Mambajao
Walkway to the Old Volcano A path past the 14 Stations of the Cross to a viewpoint on Mount Vulcan, about 30 minutes up ₱10 ≈ 10 min
Sunken Cemetery A cemetery that sank below sea level after a volcanic eruption, now a snorkelling site ₱100–150 ≈ 10 min
Gui-ob Church ruins Stone walls of a Spanish-era church left standing after the eruptions ₱50 ≈ 10 min
Bura Soda Water Pool A swimming pool of soda water; a free faucet nearby gives safe drinking water ₱150 ≈ 25 min
Tuasan Falls A 20-metre waterfall with two rock pools, open 7am–5pm ₱50–75 ≈ 30 min

Snorkelling the Sunken Cemetery

The cemetery is a reef shelf off Catarman, snorkelled from the shore. The guide is mandatory and is charged per group, so it costs the same whether you go alone or as four.

Taguines Lagoon zipline

A 700-metre zipline runs over Taguines Lagoon at J & A Fishpen Resort in Mahinog, about 45 minutes’ drive from Mambajao. The ride costs ₱400, safety briefing and equipment included. Mahinog is also where the Benoni ferry port sits, so this fits a day you arrive or leave by boat.

Binangawan Falls

A waterfall of more than 70 metres with no entrance fee. You need a motorbike or tricycle to reach the start, and the trail down is steep and can be slippery, so wear shoes with grip.

Mount Hibok-Hibok

Hibok-Hibok stands at 1,332 metres and is the island’s only historically active volcano. The climb takes 3 to 4 hours to the summit and works as a day trip from Mambajao; for sunrise, the start is around 2am. A licensed guide and a permit are required.

Fitting these around your days

The Catarman loop is a natural half-day to full day on its own; White Island and the springs make a second day, and Hibok-Hibok needs a full day of its own. Camiguin in 3 days shows how the main stops split, and Camiguin: best time to go and what a trip costs adds up what a day of this costs with transport and food.

Where to stay for this

Mambajao puts you about 10 minutes from the first three Catarman stops, and the Hibok-Hibok climb works as a day trip from there. Catarman itself is the quiet option, next to Sto. Niño Cold Spring. Mahinog suits the Taguines zipline and the ferry. Where to stay in Camiguin compares the three areas.

Before you go

Every stop on this page is pay-at-the-gate except Hibok-Hibok, which needs a guide booked ahead. I’m planning a small-group trip to Camiguin; the waitlist is free. A session with me is the fastest way to ask how these fit into a wider Mindanao trip, and how to get to Camiguin covers the ferry and flights.

Questions people ask

What is there to do in Camiguin besides White Island?

Most of it sits around Catarman on the west side: the Sunken Cemetery for snorkelling, the Walkway to the Old Volcano, the Gui-ob Church ruins, Tuasan Falls and the Bura soda-water pool. Further out are the Taguines Lagoon zipline in Mahinog and a guided climb of Mount Hibok-Hibok.

How much does it cost to snorkel the Sunken Cemetery?

Entrance is ₱100-150 per person, plus a mandatory guide at ₱150 per group and ₱100-150 for mask and snorkel if you bring none.

How much is the Walkway to the Old Volcano?

₱10 per person. The path passes the 14 Stations of the Cross and takes about 30 minutes from the jump-off to the Mount Vulcan viewpoint.

What is the entrance fee for Tuasan Falls?

₱50-75 per person. It is a 20-metre waterfall in Catarman with two rock pools, about 30 minutes' drive from Mambajao, open 7am to 5pm.

Can you climb Mount Hibok-Hibok?

Yes, with a licensed guide and a permit. The climb to the 1,332m summit takes 3 to 4 hours up. Bintana Sa Paraiso lists a guided hike with permit at ₱3,000 for one person, ₱3,800 for two and ₱4,800 for three. Check the PHIVOLCS alert level before you go.

Can I see the Catarman sights in one day?

Yes. The Walkway to the Old Volcano, the Sunken Cemetery and the Gui-ob Church ruins are each about 10 minutes' drive from Mambajao, and Tuasan Falls and the Bura soda-water pool are 25-30 minutes out, so one scooter loop covers all five.
