Things to Do in Coron Beyond the Boat Tours

Tour A and shipwreck diving are Coron’s two boat-based days, but two things to do sit in town itself and need no boat at all: the climb up Mount Tapyas, and a soak at Maquinit Hot Springs.
Mount Tapyas: free, 721 steps to a sunset view
A concrete staircase climbs from a parking area at the edge of town to a viewpoint over Coron town, the bay and Coron Island in the distance. No entrance fee, and the climb itself is the only cost.

Maquinit Hot Springs: a saltwater soak
A short tricycle ride from town over a rocky road, Maquinit is one of the few saltwater hot springs in the Philippines, a common way to end a day of diving or island hopping.

Fitting these around the boat tours
Neither needs a tour-boat booking, so both work on an evening after Tour A or a dive day. See Coron island hopping, Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon and shipwreck diving for those, and a 3-day Coron itinerary for how an evening at either could slot in.
Where to stay for this
Coron town puts you within tricycle or walking distance of both. Where to stay in Coron compares town against an offshore resort; for a dorm bed, see the best hostels in Coron.
Before you go
Neither needs booking ahead, Mount Tapyas is a free walk-up and Maquinit charges at the gate. For what a day of this plus a bed and food adds up to, see Coron: best time to visit and what a trip costs. A session with me is the fastest way to ask how these fit around a wider Coron trip.
Questions people ask
What is there to do in Coron besides Tour A and shipwreck diving?
Two land-based stops in town itself: the climb up Mount Tapyas for a free sunset view, and a soak at Maquinit Hot Springs. Neither needs a boat booking.
Is there an entrance fee for Mount Tapyas?
No, it's free. The climb is 721-724 concrete steps from the parking area to the viewpoint, commonly done around sunset, taking roughly 20-30 minutes depending on fitness and how many rest stops you take.
How much does Maquinit Hot Springs cost?
Roughly ₱250-300 per person entrance. It's a saltwater hot spring, open until 8pm with last entry at 7pm, reached by a short tricycle ride over a rocky road from town.
Is Maquinit Hot Springs a good way to end a diving day?
A lot of visitors use it that way, a warm soak after a day of boat and dive-shop cold. It's a short ride from town, so it fits easily onto the evening of a Tour A or diving day rather than needing its own half-day.
Is Mount Tapyas better at sunrise or sunset?
Sunset is the more common choice. There's no gate or posted hours, so either works, sunrise just means climbing in the dark.
Can I do Mount Tapyas and Maquinit Hot Springs on the same evening?
Yes: the Mount Tapyas climb for sunset, then a tricycle out to Maquinit afterwards for the soak, before its 7pm last entry. Both sit close enough to town to fit into one evening.
