Where to stay in Coron (2026): town or an island resort
Photo: Sailko, CC BY 3.0, via Wikimedia Commons.
Coron revolves around one town and the pier next to it. The lagoons, the wreck dives and the island-hopping boats almost all start from that same pier, which makes the where-to-sleep question simpler here than in most places, until you factor in the handful of resorts that sit on their own islands and skip the pier entirely.
Quick picks
- First time in Coron: town. The pier, the dive shops, the restaurants and the tour desks are all within walking distance.
- On a budget: town, with the most hostels and budget guesthouses, see the comparison table below and the best hostels in Coron.
- A quiet, private stay: an offshore island resort, Two Seasons or Discovery Coron among them, if you don’t mind relying on a boat for everything.
- For diving: town for the most dive shops and easiest access to the wrecks and Barracuda Lake, or Sangat Island if you’d rather stay at a dedicated dive resort.

| Area | Feel | Getting to the tours | To the airport | Price bracket | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coron town | The pier town: restaurants, dive shops, tour desks, some nightlife | Walk, the boats leave from the town pier | ≈30-45 min by van or taxi | Budget to mid-range | First-timers, divers, daily tours |
| Offshore island resort | Private island or quiet coast, a boat ride from town | By the resort’s own boat, sometimes bundled with the shared tours | Long: town transfer plus a boat ride | Upper mid-range to resort | Couples, a few quiet nights, divers wanting on-site dive center |
| Near the airport | Functional, little to see or do on foot | Van or taxi into town first, then the pier | ≈5-15 min | Budget to mid-range | Very late arrivals or very early flights only |
Coron town: where most people stay
Tours and dive boats leave from here, and so do the restaurants, shops and the evening life. Hostels, guesthouses and mid-range hotels are all in and around the town centre, close enough to the market, the dive shops along the main road and the stairs up Mount Tapyas that a tricycle is a convenience rather than a necessity for most of a day. The town is small and a bit rough around the edges, and that is part of it.
Why here: no transfer needed for tours, dive shops or food, the cheapest rooms on the island, and because several operators run from the same pier, one boat cancelling for the day doesn’t necessarily mean a lost day. Why not: it’s the busiest, least scenic of the three options, tricycle and road noise along the main strip start early, and there’s nothing resort-like right outside your door.
An offshore or island resort
A few resorts sit on their own islands or quiet coasts a boat ride from town. They are quiet, private and often beautiful, and you depend on the resort’s own boat for every meal out, every trip into town and, at some properties, the island-hopping tours themselves. Choose this for a few nights of doing nothing, not as a base for a lot of daily tours, and keep in mind that a single-boat dependency bites hardest exactly when the weather turns: in the wetter months, a cancelled resort transfer is a cancelled day with no other operator to fall back on.
Why here: privacy and a private-island feel, no town noise, and usually a quieter stretch of reef or beach right at the property. Why not: every meal and every trip into town costs a boat ride, some properties need a separate booking for island-hopping, and you’re relying on one operator’s boat rather than a pier full of alternatives.
Near the airport
If you land late or leave early, a night close to Francisco B. Reyes (Busuanga) Airport saves the full town transfer. It is a place to sleep, not a place to see, there is little in the way of restaurants or shops within walking distance, and town and the pier are still a drive away for anything else.
Why here: avoids a 30 to 45 minute transfer right after landing or right before a flight, useful if an early island-hopping pickup from town is on the line and a missed transfer isn’t an option. Why not: far from the pier, the dive shops and the restaurants for the rest of a stay, and most of these properties are built for a single night’s convenience rather than a base.
Getting around Coron town and the port
Coron town is small, but a tricycle still does most of the work once you have bags, a late dinner behind you, or a boat to catch.
A shared tricycle ride within town proper runs roughly ₱10 to ₱20 per person, rising to around ₱30 if your hotel sits on the edge of downtown rather than the centre.
A ride specifically to the port, where the island-hopping boats and the ferries leave from, costs around ₱20 per head on the same shared basis. Chartering a tricycle for a half-day out of town, to Maquinit Hot Spring for example, runs about ₱350 round trip. A van from the airport into town is a separate trip at roughly ₱150 per head; the transfer time is in the comparison table above.
None of this matters much if your hotel is actually on the pier road or in the thick of town proper: the tour meeting point, the dive shops and the market are all a walk away, which is most of the point of staying in town in the first place.
Best time to stay in Coron
When you go changes the trip more than which area you pick. Dry season, roughly November to May, brings calmer seas and clearer water, with December to February the most crowded and most expensive stretch of that window.
June to October is wetter, and July and August carry the highest typhoon risk. Rough seas during these months can make island-hopping to the outer stops unsafe or uncomfortable, and operators do cancel or reschedule trips with little notice when that happens. If you’re staying at an offshore resort and depending on its own boat for everything, that cancellation risk matters more than it does from a town base with other operators and other departure points to fall back on.
Booking a day at Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon and the shipwreck dives earlier in a wet-season trip, rather than on the last possible day, leaves room to rebook if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Connectivity and ATMs in Coron
Coron town has decent mobile coverage, and Globe is generally the stronger of the two main networks along this stretch of Palawan, but both signal and hotel WiFi weaken fast once you’re out on a tour boat or near the dive sites in the bay. Budget guesthouses often run a single shared router between every room, so don’t plan on it for video calls.
For cash, the Euronet ATMs along the main road are the most visible but cap withdrawals at ₱10,000 per transaction and charge a flat ₱220 fee regardless of amount. BPI allows up to ₱20,000 per withdrawal, which works out cheaper per peso if your card is already charged a flat international fee, and BPI, Metrobank and PNB are generally the more reliable machines in town. This lines up with the standing advice, also in the FAQ below, to withdraw what you need for your stay as soon as you land rather than counting on an ATM being stocked later in your trip.

Questions people ask
Where should I stay in Coron?
Coron town for most people. The island-hopping boats and most dive shops leave from the town pier, and the restaurants, shops and nightlife are all within walking distance.
Is it better to stay in Coron town or on an island?
Town is easier, cheaper and better connected to tours. An island resort is quieter and more private, but you depend on the resort's own boat for everything, including meals if it doesn't have its own restaurant, so it suits a few nights of doing nothing more than a base for daily tours.
How far is the airport from Coron town?
Francisco B. Reyes (Busuanga) Airport is a drive of roughly 30 to 45 minutes from Coron town by van or taxi, depending on traffic.
Where should I stay in Coron for diving?
Coron town has the most dive shops and the easiest access to the wreck sites and Barracuda Lake. Sangat Island, further out, has its own dedicated dive resort if you'd rather wake up on the water.
Where should I stay in Coron on a budget?
Coron town has the cheapest rooms by far. See the comparison table above.
Where should I stay in Coron as a couple?
Town if you still want restaurants and nightlife within walking distance. An offshore resort like Two Seasons or Discovery Coron if you'd rather trade that for a private island and a quieter few days.
Do I need to book Coron accommodation in advance?
During peak season (roughly November to May) the better-located rooms in town and the smaller island resorts sell out, so booking at least a couple of weeks ahead is safer than arriving and looking.
Can I do island-hopping tours from an offshore resort?
Some island resorts run their own island-hopping trips or can book you onto a shared tour with a pickup, but check this with the resort before booking, it varies by property and adds a transfer that a town stay doesn't need.
Is a room near the airport worth it in Coron?
Only if you land very late or leave very early. It saves the 30 to 45 minute transfer into town but puts you far from the pier, the restaurants and the dive shops for the rest of your stay.
Are there ATMs in Coron?
Yes, Coron town has around a dozen bank branches, including BDO, BPI, Landbank, Metrobank and PNB, several with on-site ATMs, mostly along the National Highway and around Poblacion. They can still run dry in peak season, so travelers on Tripadvisor's Coron forum recommend withdrawing what you need as soon as you land rather than waiting.
Is Coron safe for tourists?
Yes. Coron town is regularly described as one of the calmer, more tourist-friendly spots in the Philippines, with violent crime against visitors uncommon. The real risks are practical: boat and water safety, sun exposure and the occasional tourist-focused overcharge, not personal safety.
What's the WiFi and phone signal like in Coron?
Decent in town, weaker on the water. See Connectivity and ATMs in Coron above for which network holds up and why budget guesthouse WiFi isn't one to rely on.
When is the best time to stay in Coron, and does weather cancel island-hopping tours?
Dry season, roughly November to May, for the calmest seas; June to October is wetter and riskier for island-hopping cancellations. See Best time to stay in Coron above for the month-by-month breakdown.
