El Nido: Best Time to Visit and What a Trip Costs

Two things decide an El Nido trip: which months give the calmest seas for island hopping, and what a bed, food and a tour day actually cost once the environmental fee is added in.

Best time to visit: two distinct seasons

El Nido has two clearly split seasons rather than a gradual shift: dry from December to May, wet from June to November.

Season Months Conditions
Dry season December–May Clearer skies, calmer seas, the more reliable window for island hopping; March and April are usually the clearest
Wet season June–November More rain and rougher seas, though showers are often mixed with sun rather than constant

El Nido does not sit directly in the Philippines’ main typhoon corridor, but wet-season rain still affects which of the four island-hopping tours a boat can safely run on a given day, see Tour A, B, C and D compared for how operators reroute around weather.

What a day actually costs

Three things set the floor: a bed, food, and a tour or activity day.

Item Typical cost Notes
Hostel dorm bed ≈ ₱450–900 / night Low season to peak season range in town, see where to stay in El Nido or the best hostels in El Nido
Mid-range room ≈ ₱4,800+ / night Example: Sea Cocoon Hotel, town centre, breakfast included
Food, local eateries ≈ ₱400–600 / day Carinderia-style meals three times a day
Shared island-hopping tour (A, B, C or D) ≈ ₱1,200–1,700 pp, lunch included Full breakdown on the island hopping comparison
Eco-Tourism Development Fee (ETDF) ₱400 pp, once Paid on your first tour day, valid for every tour over the following 10 days

Sourced against hostelz.com’s El Nido hostel listings, islavisit.com’s El Nido hotel guide and VisitPalawan.com’s Palawan budget guide, last checked 12 October 2026. Room rates move with season and demand, so confirm the rate when you book.

Put together, a dorm-bed day with one shared tour lands around ₱2,450–3,600 per person once the ETDF is counted in on day one, roughly $43–63 at current exchange rates. Swap the dorm bed for the mid-range room example above and the same day moves closer to ₱6,800–7,500, since the room alone is several times the dorm rate.

Two or three days, not one

Each island-hopping tour (A, B, C, D) is sold and run as a full day, so fitting two tours plus a rest day needs at least three days in El Nido, as laid out in a 3-day El Nido itinerary. A fourth day leaves room for the Taraw Cliff climb, Las Cabanas Beach or a trip out to Nacpan, covered on things to do in El Nido beyond island hopping.

Where this fits in a wider budget

None of the figures above include getting to El Nido in the first place, see how to get to El Nido from Manila for the flight from Clark and the Puerto Princesa-plus-van route, and what each one involves.

Before you book

Book accommodation further ahead for the December to April peak, and especially around Easter and New Year, when rooms in town are most likely to sell out and rates rise. Outside that window a few days of lead time is usually enough. A session with me is the fastest way to ask how an El Nido budget fits into a wider Palawan trip.

Questions people ask

What is the best time of year to visit El Nido?

December to May is the dry season, with March and April generally the clearest and calmest for island hopping. June to November is the wet season, with more rain and rougher seas, though El Nido does not sit directly in the main typhoon belt.

What is the cheapest time to visit El Nido?

Outside the December to April peak, the wet-season months (roughly June to November) see fewer visitors and more room on accommodation rates, at the cost of a higher chance of rain affecting a tour day.

How much does a day in El Nido cost?

A backpacker-style day of a hostel dorm bed, local food and a shared island-hopping tour comes to roughly ₱2,450–3,600 once the one-time environmental fee is counted on the first day. A mid-range room instead of a dorm bed pushes that day closer to ₱6,800–7,500.

Is El Nido expensive compared to the rest of Palawan?

Generally yes. El Nido's tourism infrastructure is more built out than Puerto Princesa's, which shows up in higher accommodation and food prices, especially in peak season when rooms in town sell out.

Do prices in El Nido go up in peak season?

Accommodation does, most visibly during the December to April dry season and around Easter and the New Year, when the better-located rooms in town sell out and rates rise. The island-hopping tour prices and the environmental fee move less with season than room rates do.

How many days should I budget for El Nido?

Three days covers one full tour day (Tour A) and a second tour day (Tour C) around a day of arrival, see a 3-day El Nido itinerary for how that splits. Add a day for Taraw Cliff, Las Cabanas Beach or Nacpan if you want to see things outside the four boat tours.
